We start with the imposing Mannar Dutch Fort, exploring its weathered walls and learning about its strategic importance across different eras. In the afternoon, we travel to Thalai Mannar (Talaimannar), the very tip of the island that almost touches India. Here, you’ll witness Adam’s Bridge and soak in the atmosphere of this historical point of entry and departure.

      • Destinations: Jaffna Archaeological Museum and Jaffna Dutch Fort (Hammenhiel)

      • The Narrative: Today, we delve into the heart of the Northern capital, Jaffna. We begin at the Jaffna Archaeological Museum, a vital repository of Tamil history, art, and artifacts, providing context for the region’s ancient civilization. Next, we explore the immense and highly strategic Jaffna Fort (formerly known as the Hammenhiel Fort or the Jaffna Dutch Fort), one of Asia’s great surviving colonial fortifications, where every wall tells a story of siege and resilience.

    • The Narrative: This is a day dedicated to spiritual and physical renewal. The morning features a profound Boat Ride to Nagadeepa Temple (Nainativu), one of Sri Lanka’s 16 most sacred sites, making a pilgrimage across the water. The afternoon is spent restoring the body with a relaxing Ayurvedic Massage and embracing local culture through a Cultural Show and an Archaeological Short Film. Your day is framed by Authentic Sri Lankan Meals and local music.

    • Destinations: Kadurugoda Viharaya (Kantharodai) and Point Pedro

We visit the unique Kadurugoda Viharaya (Kantharodai), an ancient Buddhist site featuring clusters of miniature stupas, proving the region’s historical religious diversity. We explore the magnificent Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, the region’s spiritual heart, and visit the iconic Jaffna Public Library, a symbol of cultural revival. We explore traditional local markets and quiet coastal villages, ensuring a deep, authentic interaction with the local community and its cuisine, before concluding the core six-day tour.

    • The Narrative: We transition to the East Coast to explore Trincomalee, a natural deep-water harbour coveted by colonial powers for centuries. We visit Fort Frederick, a massive structure built by the Portuguese and later controlled by the Dutch and British. Perched within the fort is the sacred Koneswaram Temple, which offers breathtaking views of the ocean and dramatic cliffs.

    • Destinations: Nilaveli Beach / Pigeon Island and Departure

    • The Narrative: The final day is reserved for enjoying the pristine beauty of the East Coast. Options include relaxing on Nilaveli Beach or taking a short boat trip to Pigeon Island National Park for snorkeling among coral and marine life. You will then be transferred from the East Coast for your onward journey, carrying memories of the North’s historical resilience and the East’s sapphire waters.
